Functional Lab Testing Options

As a Functional Diagnostic Nutrition Practitioner (FDN-P) I'm specially trained to look for the hidden causes of chronic health conditions by leveraging the latest lab testing technologies. All of the tests I run are 10-20 years ahead of the lab technologies in conventional healthcare and are far more comprehensive. What this means for you is we can detect a whole lot more through these lab tests (it's not uncommon we find the root of the issue upon the very first test!). We even have the ability to spot the early onset of a disease up to 10 years in advance (talk about preventative health care!). Because the test are so comprehensive, we get a thorough understanding of what's going on throughout the body, not just in one isolated system, from every single test we run. These lab tests are what saved me from debilitating ulcerative colitis and impending surgery identified the root cause of my autoimmune conditions and made me the healthiest me yet. My clients have experienced the exact same. Just see what they have to say

As a private coaching client or Love Your Gut program member, you get access to these tests in your program. I will work with you to recommend which ones will give us the most information to move your health forward.

DNA Stool Testing

The GI-MAP stool test is a DNA-based test that is highly sensitive at testing for the presence of parasites, bacteria, fungus, yeast, and viruses, as well as inflammation, detoxification, gluten sensitivity, immune response, and more. This is the most popular test I run and has helped hundreds of clients with IBS and IBD identify the root cause and fast-track to digestive wellness by removing the triggers causing them to feel so sick.

Food Sensitivity Testing

Food sensitivities are a very common hidden trigger to inflammation, IBS, IBD, autoimmunity and many more conditions and symptoms. They can easily go undetected because symptoms can show up hours or days after eating the food, making it next to impossible to detect. There are many food sensitivity tests I run, including Zoomers, which dial-in on food categories like gluten, dairy, soy, peanuts, seafood, lectins, and more. I'll help you determine which one(s) are best for you.

Organic Acids Testing

Have a hunch Candida is behind your digestive health complaints? The Organic Acids Test (OAT) is one of the best tests out there for detecting the presence of invasive candida. It also looks for nutrient deficiencies due to poor gut health or damage to the gut so that we can strategically supplement those in to repair your gut and your overall health.

Autoimmune Testing

If you've never been tested for an autoimmune condition, or have one or more autoimmune diseases and are wondering if it could be affecting other organs, this test can detect the onset of an autoimmune disease up to 10 years in advance! Using advanced lab techniques, it can detect if your immune system is beginning to (or already) attacking other systems, which could be the reason why you don't feel well, so we can address it early on and prevent yet another condition you'll have to deal with down the road!

Intestinal Permeability + DAO

Histamine intolerance is an issue I see more and more lately as our immune systems continue to be overburdened by toxins and other triggers leading the body  to become hyper-reactive. This test by Dunwoody Labs detects damage done to the intestinal lining AND the presence of DAO, a marker of histamine intolerance. These results will tell you if histamines are an issue for you or not, so we can fine-tune your diet, calm the immune system, and help your body digest and clear out histamines.

SIBO Testing

If you suffer from severe lower abdominal bloating or pain, you should absolutely test for the presence of Small Intestinal Bacteria Overgrowth (SIBO). Traditional breath tests, however, can be time-consuming for patients as well as prone to inaccurate results. A new test, IBSSure from Vibrant America, is a simple blood test that detects the two antibodies that are indicative of bacterial-pathogen-induced motility dysfunction, which are clear indicators of the presence of SIBO.

Celiac & Gluten Sensitivity Testing

1 in 7 Americans today have a wheat-related disorder. If you suspect or know gluten is an issue for you, it's important to know if it's gluten sensitivity or Celiac disease. Even more, it's important to know which antibodies to wheat peptides - including gluten and non-gluten components - are present, which is exactly what the Wheat Zoomer test looks for. Additionally, this same test can identify the presence of intestinal permeability (leaky gut) as well as autoimmune reactions to gluten. It's the most comprehensive gluten test on the market today.

Heavy Metal Toxicity Testing

Toxic metals can be at the root of many chronic health conditions, from recurring infections to inflammation to brain fog and autoimmunity. Heavy metals can cause pathogens to hang around the body, making it hard to eliminate them without also detoxing out the metals. There are two types of heavy metal tests I run, but both look at macro and micro minerals and toxic metals. The results can provide insight into adrenal function, thyroid function, protein digestion/absorption, the presence of pathogens, and more.

MycoToxins Testing

If you grew up in, currently live in, or work in a building that you suspect has mold, mold toxicity may be at the root of many of your health concerns. The MycoToxin Profile, a urine test, tests for 40 different species of mold, including aflatoxin M1, ochratoxin A, sterigmatocystin, roridin, verracuarin A, enniatin B1 and Zearalenone. This information will pinpoint if mold is a cause to be addressed and just be addressing the mold, many other symptoms can be relieved as your body begins to heal.

Sex and Stress Hormone Testing

Whether you've recently come off "the pill", are looking to get pregnant, want to rebalance your hormones after pregnancy, or just want to see what your hormones are doing in your body, the Dried Urine Test for Comprehensive Hormones (DUTCH) by Precision Analytical is the most advanced test that looks both at how your body is producing sex and adrenal hormones as well as how well your body is utilizing them. This can help identify adrenal "fatigue" (now called HPA Axis Dysfunction), estrogen dominance, testosterone dominance, causes for infertility, endometriosis, PCOS, PMS, sleep issues, and much more. The results also show us the status of many key vitamins and neurotransmitters that are inputs to the hormone production process.

Neurotransmitter Testing

Balance your brain, balance your body! The Neurogistics NeuroFocusl panel is a urine test that provides a customized Brain Wellness Program to restore natural brain balance. Imbalances in neurotransmitters like serotonin, dopamine, and GABA can explain mood disorders, susceptibility to anxiety, sleep disturbances, depression, and much more. Because neurotransmitters signal to so many other areas of your body, simply by fine-tuning these you will see improvements in many other areas, notably, your hormones!

Thyroid Testing

Your thyroid hormones are your master hormones, so if they are imbalanced, so, too, may be your sex and adrenal hormones as well as your mood, sleep, energy, and overall health. This simple blood test looks not just at TSH levels (what all conventional tests do) but also T4, T3, rT3, thyroglobulin, and even antibodies to the thyroid. This testing is important to do if you have thyroid issues that run in your family, low energy, hormone imbalance, unexplained weight issues, hair loss, or autoimmunity and digestion issues. All of these can point to a thyroid imbalance, and once detected, there are natural protocols we can implement to restore your thyroid back into a happy balance.

Micronutrient Testing

Nutrient deficiencies are all too common these days, considering depleted soil nutrients, gut health challenges, stress, and lack of sleep. All of these can hinder proper digestion and/or absorption of nutrients - even if your diet is in tip top shape. The Micronutrient test looks at vitamins like D, K, E, C, B's, as well as amino acids and antioxidants. It also looks at how well you metabolize carbohydrates (if you have a fructose sensitivity or glucose-insulin interaction), and your total antioxidant and immune function. This is one of the most comprehensive nutrient panels on the market today, providing insights not only into deficiencies but also indicators as to WHY there are deficiencies. The results will allow you to more strategically supplement while also addressing the root cause.

Lyme Disease & Tick-born Illness

Tickborne diseases have more than doubled in the last decade alone and Lyme Disease accounts for nearly 82% of them. Because many symptoms of tickborne diseases can be generic or mimic other conditions, these diseases can go undiagnosed, increasing the progression of the disease. This simple blood test looks for the presence of Lyme, Babesiosis, Bartonella, Ehrlichoisis, rickettsiosis, and Rocky Mountain spotted fever, pinpointing if that tick bite you got last summer is the reason you're not feeling well or if a hidden tick bite is what has caused your health to spiral. There are natural protocols we can then walk you through to remove the infections and restore your body back to health.

Metabolic Assessment Testing

This test evaluates some of the body's most fundamental functional systems: digestion, detoxification, and antioxidant capacity. The results of this urine test will indicate how well your body breaks down food, how efficient your liver is at detoxing, and if you have any cellular damage. This test is a great place to start to begin to understand where imbalances may lie in the body so that we can dig in and identify root causes and begin implementing strategic protocols to optimize these areas and get your vibrant health back!

How Testing Works

All of the above tests can be done right from the comfort of your home. Even the blood tests can be done through a mobile phlebotomist unless you'd prefer to go to a local draw site. As soon as you become a client and we decide upon the best tests that will give us the information we need to pinpoint the hidden causes of disease in the body, I will place an order for them and they will arrive at your doorstep for you to complete. Within 1-3 weeks, the results arrive back and I then walk you through them line-by-line to understand how the results correlate with how you feel. Then, we'll talk through a recommended protocol that's comprised with food recommendations, lifestyle strategies, stress management, supplementation, exercise, and more. As a holistic practitioner, I address the whole body the whole time and never just prescribe supplements - they are just one part of a much larger picture.

Working with me, I'll help guide you in implementing these changes to ensure they're practical for your unique lifestyle so that this can become an exciting and easy lifestyle for you.
